Ambulatory Phlebectomy for Treatment of Varicose Veins

Ambulatory phlebectomy is used to treat larger varicose veins on the surface that can’t be treated with procedures that work for smaller veins. During ambulatory phlebectomy, large varicose veins are removed from the body via punctures in the skin. This is less invasive and less painful than traditional vein surgery.

What to expect from ambulatory phlebectomy

First, the veins to be treated are marked on the skin. Local anesthesia is injected. Then the bulging veins are removed in small pieces through tiny incisions. You shouldn’t feel any pain during the procedure, although some patients describe a tugging feeling.

After your procedure, you’ll be able to walk right away and resume your normal activities. You’ll need to wear compression stockings for about a week. Because the vein was physically removed, you won’t have to wait weeks or months for full results.
